The Gastein Valley is very concerned about the environment. Numerous free ski buses run between the villages and base stations and also to the base station at Sportgastein. The Gasteiner Bergbahnen ski lift operator also shows very great commitment to the environment. Hydraulic energy is used to power cable cars and snow-making equipment. There is a charging point for electric cars at the base station in Sportgastein. Reservoirs are filled mainly with snowmelt. Slope surfaces are cultivated extensively.
