1/10 Ski lifts/ropeways Zugspitze
The ski area on the Zugspitze is accessible via two modern 6-seater chairlifts with weather protection hoods as well as several drag lifts.
The ascent to the Zugspitze from Germany is usually made with the fast, comfortable, and scenic Seilbahn Zugspitze. It starts at the Eibsee near Grainau. From Ehrwald in Austria, you can also reach the summit with the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn. On Germany’s highest mountain, the 360° panorama impresses with views of over 400 peaks in 4 countries. From the summit, you take the Gletscherbahn down about 200 vertical meters to the ski area on the Zugspitzplatt.
Alternatively, you can ascend with the cogwheel train. The Bayerische Zugspitzbahn starts in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and takes 75 minutes to reach the Zugspitzplatt. Stops along the route are Hausberg, Kreuzeck-/Alpspitzbahn, Hammersbach, Grainau, and Eibsee.
The Seilbahn Zugspitze is a cable car of superlatives and broke three world records when it opened in 2017: with a 127-meter-high support, the world’s highest cable car support; the world’s greatest overall height difference in one section at 1,945 meters; and the world’s longest free span at 3,213 meters.
