The Zugspitze is located between Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Upper Bavaria and Ehrwald in Tyrol. Garmisch-Partenkirchen can be reached from Munich via the A95 motorway. The main access point is the large Zugspitze cable car at Eibsee above Grainau. Alternatively, you can take the cogwheel train (stops: Zugspitzbahnhof Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Hausberg, Kreuzeck-/Alpspitzbahn, Hammersbach, Grainau, and Eibsee).

The cable car in Ehrwald (Tyrol) is especially convenient if you are arriving from the west via the A7 to Füssen and Reutte/Fernpass, as well as from Austria.
