The Wasserkuppe ski area is located on the northeastern slope of the Wasserkuppe in the Hessian Rhön. The ski and toboggan arena is the largest ski area in the Rhön, and the first ski lift, the Panoramalift, was built here as early as 1963. On the Wasserkuppe, ski slopes of all difficulty levels are available for skiing and snowboarding, with the runs down to Abtsroda providing a challenge for sporty skiers. For children and beginners, there is a dedicated area with a conveyor belt near the Märchenwiesenhütte. Of course, the winter sports area on the Wasserkuppe also features a spectacular winter toboggan run and even a fun park between the Panorama and Abtsroda lifts. Skiing, snowboarding, and tobogganing under floodlights, offered daily except Sundays, are also very popular.
