In February 2016, German Ingo Schlutius, founder of Powderproject.ch, was the first to explore the freeride terrain around the mountain village of Bakhmaro, which is uninhabited in winter. Today, the catskiing company operates 20 diesel-powered snow groomers, three hotels, two guesthouses, two mountain huts, and welcomes around 1,000 freeriders during the approximately eleven-week winter season.
For its tenth anniversary, Georgian catskiing pioneer Ingo Schlutius and his company Powderproject.ch are focusing on innovative and sustainable technology: Starting this season, two electrically powered snowcats from the Bolzano-based manufacturer xelom will transport international freeriders and powder enthusiasts to the snowy slopes of the Lesser Caucasus. Not somewhere in the Alps or the Rocky Mountains, but in the remote Lesser Caucasus around the mountain village of Bakhmaro, situated at 2,000 meters, a new era of freeriding is beginning.
