Environmental protection of the ski resort Winterberg (Skiliftkarussell)

A 5,000 square meter photovoltaic system supplies "green" electricity to the grid in Winterberg all year round. This is roughly equivalent to the amount needed by Winterberg's snowmaking systems during the season for snow production.
However, the slopes remain open until there is almost no snow left.
Promoting public transportation and using the AstenExpress ski bus (Saturdays and Sundays only) to reduce private car traffic are further steps towards becoming a climate-neutral winter sports region. Achieving this is at least a goal that Winterberg has set for itself. Currently, a concept for the sustainable development of the Wintersport-Arena Sauerland is being developed.

Public transportation/on-site mobility

  • Train connection
Winterberg (during the season, bus connection to the ski area for all arriving trains)
  • Small ski bus offering
  • Scheduled buses
  • During the weekdays, regular scheduled buses operate frequently. On weekends from December 26th to March 3rd, the AstenExpress ski bus supplements the existing bus service, providing seamless connections to winter sports facilities. It runs from Winterberg train station (connections to all regular trains, free for Sauerland Card holders, included in the train ticket to Winterberg) to the lifts in eight minutes (stop: Winterberg Rathaus, access to the Astenstraße ski lift).
