Connection from the Gletscherexpress to the Schwarze Schneide lift is not ideal, parking fees, limited cross-country ski trailsDescription Sölden
Ötztal Arena - Sölden immediately brings to mind the following highlights: glacier ski circuit, Golden Gate to the Glacier, winter ski area above the 3,000 m mark, fantastic runs, World Cup opening, and much more.
From Sölden, the 10-seater Giggijoch gondola quickly takes you up to the Giggijoch. Up here, you have many options to start your ski day. On one hand, the Roßkirplbahn opens up challenging runs for experts, while on the other, the 8-seater Giggijoch chairlift gives access to the wide and easy slopes at the Giggijoch. From the Giggijoch, you can also ski down to the valley via Hochsölden on either a difficult or intermediate run. The 8-seater Silberbrünnlbahn chairlift leads up to the Rotkoglhütte (2,662 m). The Hainbachkarbahn runs alongside the Silberbrünnlbahn and ends just before the Rotkoglhütte. Here you’ll find very wide, easy runs and the Snowpark Sölden. The Funslope is located at the 8-seater Giggijoch chairlift.
Since the 1998/1999 season, a slope leads further towards the Rettenbach Glacier. This connection is called the "Golden Gate to the Glacier." The fast 8-seater Einzeiger chairlift takes you up to the Gletscherexpress. The 8-seater gondola quickly brings you over to the Rettenbach Glacier. The 4-seater Schwarzkogl chairlift, starting from the lower part of the Einzeigerbahn, takes you up to nearly 3,000 m and offers wide and challenging slopes.
If you take the Gletscherexpress, after a short ride you’ll find yourself at the foot of the glacier, ready to put your skis back on. From the parking lot (2,700 m, accessible only in summer), the 8-seater Schwarze Schneide I and II gondolas take you up to 3,340 m. At the top, you’ll enjoy a magnificent view over the Ötztal, Pitztal, and Stubai Alps, and you can clearly see the Pitztal glacier ski area with its panoramic lift.
On the glaciers, wide and easy slopes await winter sports enthusiasts. The upper runs are also served by the Karleskogl drag lift. These mostly easy slopes are perfect for skiing and snowboarding. From the top station of the Karleskogl drag lift or the Schwarze-Schneid-Bahn, you can pass through the 170 m long and 6 m wide ski tunnel to the Tiefenbach Glacier. Alternatively, you can switch to the Seiterjöchl drag lift via a beautiful "Schusspiste," which also takes you to the transition to the Tiefenbach Glacier.
From up here, you can ski down to the base station of the 6-seater Seiterkar chairlift with weather protection hoods and the 8-seater Tiefenbachbahn gondola. Drivers can also park at the Tiefenbach Glacier after passing through the tunnel from Rettenbach to Tiefenbach. The 8-seater Tiefenbachbahn gondola takes you to the beautiful and gently sloping glacier runs. The Panorama and Mutkogl drag lifts, up to 3,260 m, add to the fun at the Tiefenbachferner. For children, there is a platter lift right next to the parking lot. With the 6-seater Seiterkar chairlift, you can float over to the transition to the Rettenbachferner. This brings you back to the parking lot and the Gletscherexpress.
As autumn ski areas, the two Ötztal glaciers are highly recommended, as there is already good snow here in autumn and, for a glacier ski area, you have a relatively large selection of slopes. Thanks to the ski tunnel, you can easily switch between the glaciers.
Now you can take the Gletscherexpress and the 4-seater Seekogl chairlift back into the Sölden winter ski area. Alternatively, you can take a run (15 km to Sölden) through the Rettenbach Valley down to the 6-seater Langegg and Stabele chairlifts or all the way down to Sölden.
The 6-seater Stabele chairlift takes you towards the Gaislachkogl. Via intermediate runs, you can ski to the mid-station or all the way down to the 8-seater Gaislachkogl I gondola. From the Gaislachkogl (3,058 m), accessible by the 3-S Bahn, a beautiful, long intermediate run leads down to the valley. Near the mid-station of the Gaislachkogl lifts, the 6-seater Wasserkar chairlift takes you up to the top station of the Heidebahn. A wide intermediate run leads down to the Heidebahn, where the Gaislachalm drag lift is also located. With the Heidebahn, you can head back up towards the Gaislachkogl.
Alternatively, you can take an easy run via Innerwald, where two drag lifts for beginners are operating, down to the valley. From the top station of the Heidebahn, you can also ski down to the Rettenbach Valley and take the 6-seater Langegg chairlift back to the Rotkoglhütte and the Giggijoch. After a wonderful day of skiing, numerous après-ski bars and pubs in Sölden invite you in, and there’s always a great atmosphere here.
