SKI JUWEL ALPBACHTAL WILDSCHÖNAU
The Alpbachtal and Wildschönau have been connected since the 2012/2013 season and now present themselves under the name Ski Juwel Alpbachtal-Wildschönau. The centerpiece of the connection is a new 8-seater gondola lift, which, alongside the existing 8-seater Pöglbahn, leads from Inneralpbach via the Pechalm (mid-station) up to the Schatzberg.
ALPBACHTAL
After just a 4 km drive from the Kramsach motorway exit, you reach Reith im Alpbachtal. Here, a modern 8-seater gondola lift and 4 drag lifts whisk you up to 1,280 m, just below the 1,337 m high Reitherkogel. After another 4 kilometers, the 6-seater Wiedersberger Hornbahn gondola starts, taking you via a mid-station up to the Hornboden at 1,850 m. From here, you can head straight down the challenging FIS run to the mid-station and continue on an intermediate run into the valley. Up to the mid-station, you can also choose an intermediate or easy run. There’s something for everyone.
Another very beautiful and wide forest run leads down to Inneralpbach. In Inneralpbach, there is a platter lift for beginners and another drag lift called Galtenberglift. With the 8-seater Pöglbahn gondola, you can ascend via a mountain-side mid-station up to the 1,900 m high Gmahkopf. Up here, you’ll also find the 6-seater Gmah chairlift, the 4-seater Brandegg chairlift, a short platter lift, and the 4-seater Kohlgubenbahn chairlift, with easy and intermediate runs from the other side. Below the Hornboden guesthouse, an easy run leads to the Kohlgrubenbahn. This makes it easy for beginners to reach the practice area at the Muldenlift with the help of the 4-seater chairlift. The other runs up here are above the tree line and are mostly intermediate to difficult.
To get to the 6-seater Hornbahn 2000 chairlift, you need to take a connecting trail. The runs at the Hornbahn 2000 are also intermediate to difficult, and you’ll find wide slopes ideal for off-piste skiing. This lift takes you to the highest point in the ski area, at 2,032 m. The 13-meter-high observation tower at the mountain station offers a magnificent 360° panoramic view at the Top of Alpbachtal.
Ski route no. 66, Baumgartenroute, starts here and first leads over open terrain and then through the forest down to Inneralpbach to the Galtenberg drag lift, which pulls you up to the mid-station of the Pöglbahn. The last section of the ski route is relatively flat, so you’ll need plenty of momentum. Another option is to take a connecting trail from the Hornbahn 2000 over to the Brandegglift and from there ski down to the valley to the gondola or take the lift back up.
The valley run to the gondola is intermediate and leads directly to the gondola’s base station. For a break, we recommend the rustic Böglalm above Inneralpbach, the Hornbodenhütte, or the Asthütte. For après-ski, there’s an umbrella bar in Inneralpbach, Joe’s Salettl, and the Liftstüberl in Alpbach at the gondola base stations. In Alpbach itself, the Böglerlift drag lift runs on sunny slopes and is especially inviting for beginners.
WILDSCHÖNAU
From Wörgl, a winding road leads up into the high valley of Wildschönau, first reaching Niederau with its ski mountains Markbachjoch and Lanerköpfl. A modern 8-seater gondola runs from Niederau up to the 1,500 m high Markbachjoch. From the mountain station, you can either take the intermediate Märchenwiesen run through the forest back to the valley or take an easy slope to the Mittermoosjoch and Kropfraderjoch drag lifts. The runs at these two drag lifts are easy to intermediate. To get from these lifts back to the valley, you can either take the well-groomed intermediate Tennladen run or the challenging shortcut. At the Arenalift (formerly Tennladen), there is a speed track and a supervised race and training center. A flat slope, perfect for picking up speed, leads back to the base station of the Markbachjochbahn, where more platter lifts provide access to easy practice slopes. With the detachable 4-seater chairlift with weather protection hoods, the Lanerköpfl, you can go directly to the 1,600 m high mountain of the same name. From here, you can either glide over to Markbachjoch or take the challenging summit run followed by the difficult Hochberg run all the way down to Niederau.
If you continue by car or ski bus from Niederau, you reach Oberau with its small areas Riedlberg and Roggenboden, offering a total of 5 drag lifts. In Mühltal, the road splits towards Thierbach or Auffach. At the end of the valley, you reach the idyllic village of Auffach at 875 m. From here, the 8-seater Schatzberg gondola glides via the Koglmoos mid-station up to 1,800 m to the Schatzberghaus. An intermediate run leads to the detachable 6-seater Hahnkopf chairlift, which takes you just below the Schatzberg. The runs here are mostly intermediate, and there is also a difficult run on treeless slopes. You can easily swing down wide runs to the Gipfelbahn, also a detachable 6-seater chairlift, giving you many opportunities to enjoy the wonderful slopes. The runs at the 6-seater chairlifts are very snow-sure, so you can carve down well-graded slopes well into spring. Since the 2008/2009 season, there has been the new Gern run, which leads over wide alpine meadows to the base station of the Gipfelbahn.
Highly recommended is the Gipfö Hit, almost directly at the Schatzberg – here you can enjoy Tyrolean specialties either on the sun terrace or in the cozy parlor with an open fireplace. To return to the mountain station of the Schatzbergbahn, you first glide along a connecting trail that crosses the Hahnkopf 6-seater chairlift and then ends as an intermediate run at the gondola’s mountain station. The easy run 2a leads to the Thalerkogel drag lift, which mainly serves intermediate runs.
A connecting trail brings you back to the Schatzberg run and the mid-station. Shortly before the mid-station, you can make a detour to the Hohlriederlamlift, which serves an easy slope. For beginners, the Koglmoos platter lift and a conveyor belt operate at the mid-station. The varied valley runs are especially beautiful, reached via a connecting trail through the forest, leading all the way down to Auffach. After skiing, you can enjoy the sun at the Schatzbergalm or stop by one of the umbrella bars. Right at the base station, there’s the Gruttn Stadl, where you can round off the day with après-ski.
