Description Silvretta Montafon

The first access point to the Silvretta Montafon ski area, the most athletic ski resort in Vorarlberg, is the Hochjoch cable cars from Schruns. You can enter the Hochjoch section of the ski area, which surrounds the 2,520 m high peak of the same name, from several sides. To reach Kapell at 1,850 m, you can take the six-person Zamang gondola directly from Schruns or two aerial tramways via the Kropfen mid-station. From Silbertal, a double chairlift with weather protection hoods also leads into the ski area.

The Seebliga Arena, a hub in the ski area, is fully covered with artificial snow, and you can easily reach the eight-person Seebliga chairlift with weather protection hoods and heated seats. At this chairlift, you’ll find beautiful, wide runs ranging from easy to intermediate. Thanks to snowmaking, this lift is usually in operation from the end of November.

To reach the slopes at Grasjoch and the connecting lift to Nova, take the eight-person Panorama gondola to Kreuzjoch. From there, you can ski down gentle, treeless slopes to Grasjoch at 1,975 m. Another double chairlift takes you up to Fredakopf. Here, the Platina drag lift also starts, leading to easy slopes. Now you can take the Grasjochbahn down to St. Gallenkirch in the valley or float up to the highest point in the ski area at 2,430 m with the Hochalpiabahn. From here, you can either ski down past Herzsee and through the 470 m long ski tunnel (the longest ski tunnel in the world) to Kapell or return to Grasjoch.

Alternatively, you can take the short ride with the Sennigrat double chairlift up to Sennigrat. A challenging run leads from Sennigrat down to Kapell. Very beautiful forest runs continue from Kapell via the Kropfen mid-station down to the valley and the Hochjoch aerial tramway in Schruns.

About halfway down, the easy valley run (flat trail) branches off into Silbertal towards the Kapellbahn. Unfortunately, there is no valley run to the Zamangbahn. To ease congestion, the Kropfen double chairlift runs parallel to the aerial tramway from the mid-station into the ski area and ends just above Kapell. For a break, you can stop at the Grasjochhütte, Wormser Hütte, Kapellrestaurant, or Gasthaus Kropfen.

From St. Gallenkirch, the Grasjochbahn at Silvretta Park Montafon takes you up to Hochjoch, and the Valisera ten-person gondola takes you to the Nova section of the ski area. The lift goes up to 2,010 m via the mid-station. From here, you can either head into Novatal or take easy runs to the Valisera mid-station and continue towards Garfrescha. The detachable six-person Nova chairlift with weather protection hoods takes you up to Nova Stoba. Now, the intermediate run down to Gaschurn awaits.

From Gaschurn, the Versettla six-person gondola in two sections takes you back up to Nova Stroba. The Spatla four-person chairlift and the Burg drag lift open up the wide, treeless slopes at Nova Stroba on the Gaschurn side.

Now you can ski back down into Novatal on either challenging or easy slopes. The easiest way to reach the detachable six-person Madrisella chairlift is to head up towards Schwarzköpfle. The detachable three-person Schwarzköpfle chairlift starts a bit higher up and supports the six-person chairlift. From here, you can ski to the backside of the mountain, where a fast eight-person chairlift with weather protection hoods and heated seats, the Sonnenbahn, or the Heimspitz four-person chairlift, take you back up. The detachable six-person chairlift with weather protection hoods "Rinderhütte" takes you up to 2,275 m, the highest point in the ski area. The runs up here are mostly intermediate and on treeless slopes.

To get down to the valley in St. Gallenkirch, you can either take a flat trail from Novatal or the wide runs on Gampabinger Berg and via the Valisera mid-station to the Vermiel six-person chairlift, which takes you over to the opposite slope, so you can reach the runs down to Garfrescha and St. Gallenkirch. The fastest eight-person chairlift in Vorarlberg, "Silvretta," also starts at the base station of the Vermielbahn and quickly takes you back up to the top station of the Valiserabahn.

From the top station of the Vermielbahn, you can glide directly down to Garfrescha and St. Gallenkirch or to the Grandau four-person chairlift, which serves intermediate and easy runs. From Garfrescha, an older double chairlift takes you back into the Silvretta Montafon Nova ski area. For the descent to St. Gallenkirch, you should keep up your speed, as the last meters are very flat. But après-ski awaits winter sports enthusiasts in the valley.

Highly recommended are the restaurants Bella Nova, Valisera Hüsli, and Nova Stroba with après-ski. Here you’ll find excellent food in a rustic atmosphere and can enjoy the sun on the terraces.
