The Mt. Hotham ski area starts at an altitude of 1,450 m, and the village itself is located at 1,765 m. The lowest snowfall limit is around 1,100 m. As a result, Mount Hotham is usually covered in white during winter. The winter sports area features an extensive snowmaking system on the main slopes in Hotham Central and Big D, ensuring ski operations throughout the winter months. The slopes at Blue Ribbon, The Drift, Gotcha, Keogh's, and the Orchard rely on natural snow.
