Description Jungholz

Jungholz – located on Austrian territory but only accessible via Bavaria – is a small yet charming family ski area in the Oberallgäu region. The road to Jungholz branches off from the main road between Wertach and Unterjoch. From there, it’s just 3 km to the lovely village and the centrally located parking lots. From the ticket office, the child-safe Bischlag four-seater chairlift and the Steineberg drag lift take you up into the gentle ski area of Jungholz. The slopes are mostly easy, wide, and lead through forest clearings down to the valley. From the top station of the Steineberg lift, you can access all five other lifts in the area. The two parallel Sorgschrofen I and II drag lifts take you up to the highest point in the ski area at 1,500 meters. Less experienced skiers or snowboarders can get off at the so-called exit plateau just below the top station, as the last 200 meters are relatively steep. However, you shouldn’t miss the view from up here. Two intermediate forest run descents start here, offering plenty of open ski space and further easy runs all the way down to Jungholz – from here, you can reach all the slopes in the ski area.

The runs at the Schwandlift are highly recommended, especially the Hinterer Wald run, which leads directly from the top station of the Schwandlift into the forest and further down, past the N’Ice Bear Kinderland, to the child-safe Adler four-seater chairlift (incidentally, the first of its kind in the Allgäu). The Adler four-seater chairlift serves an easy, very wide slope that is perfect for beginners and children. For a break in the ski area, there is the well-run Schrofen-Hütte. Speaking of breaks: within the ski area, there is only the Schrofen-Hütte and the Bischlag Stadl near the ticket office, but in the village, there are several other inns, most of which are almost accessible by ski. At the top station of the Adler four-seater chairlift, you’ll find the N’Ice Bear Kinderland – with two magic carpets, a snow carousel, slides, and much more!

Thanks to the excellent signage in the area, it’s easy to find your way around the slopes, and if you do happen to get lost, all paths lead back to the parking lot and the ticket office.
