Description Axamer Lizum

It’s about 9 km from the village of Axams to reach the valley station of Axamer Lizum at an altitude of 1,560 m. With its three ski mountains—Hoadl, Birgitzköpfl, and Pleisen—the area offers wonderful runs for all levels of difficulty.

From the large parking lot, you can take the new Hoadlbahn, a 10-seater gondola with a mid-station, up to the Hoadl. The Hoadl is the highest point in the ski area at 2,340 m. The Olympiabahn also arrives here. This funicular railway was built for the 1976 Winter Games. Many of the runs up here are of medium difficulty and are located on wide, treeless slopes.

The Pleisen double chairlift takes you up to the 2,235 m high Pleisen. From Pleisen, a ski route leads nearly 5 kilometers down to Axams, with a vertical drop of 1,260 m. Unfortunately, there are no lifts from here, so you have to take the ski bus back to Axamer Lizum.

The Karleiten four-seater chairlift relieves the double chairlifts and also quickly brings winter sports enthusiasts back up the mountain. This is also where you’ll find the Golden Roofpark Axamer Lizum.

The Olympiabahn also gets you to the Hoadl quickly, as it takes just 5 minutes to go from the valley to the summit. When the sun is shining, all the window fronts in the Hoadlhaus are opened, allowing you to enjoy the sunshine and take in the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. The over 3-kilometer-long Olympia Damenabfahrt leads from here below the impressive rocky peaks (Kalkkögl) back to the valley station. Several beautiful but challenging ski routes complete the offerings below the Hoadl.

The Kaserwald I and Talboden drag lifts offer ideal terrain for beginners in the valley area, and this is also where you’ll find the Café Restaurant Liz for a break. The Birgitzköpfl double chairlift takes you up to 2,025 m. Up here, the short Götzner Grube drag lift is still running, providing access to an easy to intermediate run. The Götzner Abfahrt leads from here into the Mutterer Alm ski area and further on to Götzens and Mutters.

From Axamer Lizum, you can reach the villages of Götzens and Mutters by ski via long valley runs, but unfortunately, you always have to take the ski bus back to the ski area. In the future, a connection from Mutterer Alm is planned, so you’ll be able to return directly to Axamer Lizum.

The mogul run from Birgitzköpfl is a highlight for advanced skiers. If you just want to enjoy the beautiful view up here, you can of course take the chairlift back down to the valley, as there is only the difficult run here, which is not suitable for beginners.

Throughout the ski area, cozy huts and the large panoramic restaurant invite you to take a break, and after an eventful day, you can stop by an umbrella bar at the parking lot for some après-ski. Thanks to the high altitude of the ski area, Axamer Lizum is very snow-sure from the end of November to the end of April.

Because of the many different runs—long mogul slopes, steep descents, beautiful straight sections, and wide, well-graded slopes—Axamer Lizum offers something for every winter sports enthusiast. There’s plenty of variety, so both advanced skiers and beginners will never get bored.
