Approx. 15 miles northwest of Winthrop, the Freestone Inn and the heliport are located in Mazama at the end of, Washingtonon State Route 20. During the winter the highway is closed due to the high risk of avalanches. Next to the Freestone Inn is the helipad of North Cascade Heiskiing located. In a nice and cozy cottage is the check in and you can coose a pair of nice fat boy skis and then you can dress you up. It is very familiar atmosphere as there can ski only a maximum of 12 guests per day. Snacks and water are offered complimentary and also during the day you can have sandwiches, drinks and chocolate...
You get in the helicopter right in front of the cottage and then you fly up to the breathtaking "Alps of America". The runs are fantastic, via wide deep snow slopes and through steep canyons. There is so a lot of snow that you can ski or ride riskless on the deep powder runs and through steep canyons...
The mountains are very similar to the Alps and sometimes you think that you are skiing below the Matterhorn or the Zugspitze. The guides and the experienced pilot permit their guests an unforgettable ski day. If you are back in the valley you sit with a beer together and you think back to the wonderful day of freh powder and the magnificient runs...
