The Solitude ski resort in the state of Utah is located southeast of Salt Lake City in the Wasatch Mountains. It takes only about 40 minutes to reach the ski area from Salt Lake City. The drive follows a mountain road through Big Cottonwood Canyon.During winter conditions, administrative regulations come into effect (UDOT Traction Law: rules for snow chains, winter tires, and/or all-wheel drive). The road may be temporarily closed due to avalanche danger.
Day guest parking is available at the Moonbeam Base Area valley station. Depending on the day of the week, the season, and the number of people in the car, parking is either free or subject to various fees. Overnight guests in Solitude Village board at the Apex Express. There is another parking lot here.
Winter Closure
Guardsman Pass is closed in winter. Therefore, Big Cottonwood Canyon is a dead end in winter and ends after the Solitude ski area at the Brighton ski area.

- The Solitude ski resort is easily accessible by public transport. The ski bus operated by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) goes directly to the Solitude ski resort. It is free of charge for season pass holders.
