Salla may be a small ski resort in Finland, but it has a rich history. It is said that the world’s oldest ski was found here, which is why people in Salla believe that skiing has taken place here since the Stone Age. What is certain is that Finland’s first slalom and giant slalom competitions were held here in 1937. Today, both families and professionals come to Salla for skiing and snowboarding. They appreciate the variety of slopes, which stretch across three different sides of the Sallafjäll. These include easy practice slopes as well as a black FIS run, which is often used by ski professionals for training camps. Most of the slopes in the Salla ski area are illuminated and some are also equipped with snowmaking. The Salla Snow Park and the Speed Check Point also provide plenty of fun. For cross-country skiers, this winter sports destination is a real treat. A 160 km network of cross-country trails, a quarter of which are illuminated, leads around Salla through the rugged and impressive landscape of Lapland. Two of the trails, the Kaunisharju-Trail and the Ratiskaviita-Trail, can even be used together with your own dogs.
