The Sochi Games have faced criticism, not least because of the complete development of ski resorts in previously untouched natural areas. In Rosa Khutor, the mountain was heavily altered to create the competition courses, which is especially noticeable when there is not much snow. However, efforts are being made to attract guests in the summer as well, with significant attention given to re-greening the area. In addition, numerous compensatory measures were implemented as a result of the ski resort expansion, including a project to reintroduce snow leopards. The exemplary connection of the ski resorts around Krasnaya Polyana to the public transport network is also a positive aspect. As part of the Games, the region was also connected to the gas supply, so heating with coal and wood is no longer necessary, which has significantly improved air quality.
