Environmental protection of the ski resort Pitztal Glacier (Pitztaler Gletscher)

At nearly 3,000 meters above sea level, the highest photovoltaic system in Europe was installed on the Pitztal Glacier. It supplies more than a third of the energy required in the ski area. There is an excellent transportation concept throughout the 35 km long Pitztal valley, with ski buses running at regular intervals. Summer skiing operations have been discontinued to protect the glacier. In summer, the glacier is covered with tarps. The lifts are modern and energy-efficient.

Public transportation/on-site mobility

  • No direct train connection
The nearest train station is in Imst. From there, buses run to the valley station of the Pitztaler Gletscherbahn.
