No fast detachable chairlifts, limited accommodation options at the valley stationDescription Hochkössen (Unterberghorn) – Kössen
Kössen, a small and tranquil family ski area near the Bavarian border, offers slopes for every taste. From the parking lot, the six-person gondola takes you directly up to Hochkössen. A double chairlift then continues towards Unterberghorn, reaching up to 1,700 meters. At the summit, you’ll also find the Karlift, a short drag lift, and the Almbahn, another double chairlift. Up here, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser as well as the Kitzbühel Alps.
An easy run leads back to the gondola. Via the easy run 3 or the intermediate run 4, you can carve your way to the Brandlift, another double chairlift. To get back to the summit, you can take the Brandlift and then the Bärenlift, which brings you back to the Gipfellift.
There are lovely places to stop for refreshments throughout the ski area. Prices are still reasonable here, and the Tyrolean specialties are highly recommended.
For the descent into the valley, you have all options: from an easy connecting trail to an intermediate slope and even a black run. At the bottom of the valley, there are conveyor belts, a rope tow, a platter lift, and a drag lift. This area is ideal for beginners. The ski school also operates a modern children's area.
Conclusion: The Hochkössen ski area is an ideal ski mountain for families as well as advanced skiers, and it can be reached from Munich in no time at all.
