New storage pond "Bergsee" Gerlitzen Alpe
Just below the summit of Gerlitzen Alpe, the largest, highest, and final reservoir of the mountain is being built.Summer is also the time for construction phases and renovations. This year's investments are entirely focused on the major "Bergsee" project. At around 1,810 meters above sea level, the largest and highest reservoir on Gerlitzen Alpe is being constructed. With this project, the snowmaking facilities on the mountain are being fully completed. The construction project, with a contract volume of approximately 4 million euros, is an innovative step towards making snowmaking on our slopes even more resource-efficient and minimizing the ecological footprint. Thanks to the reservoir’s high-altitude location, no more water needs to be pumped from the valley up the mountain, and snowmaking using the natural pressure of the water is now possible across almost the entire area. The necessary rock material for the project is being excavated at the height of the Klösterle run. As a positive side effect for skiers, this will make the Klösterle ski run wider in the coming winter season. The new reservoir will be complemented by a state-of-the-art and automated lance system, which will also be implemented on the north side this year.
