The Tūroa ski area is characterized by wide, open slopes on treeless hillsides on the southwest flank of Mt. Ruapehu (2,797 m). It is defined by intermediate and advanced runs. Within the 500 hectares of controlled ski area, there are also numerous freeride opportunities. Freestylers can enjoy several snow parks. Beginners and less experienced skiers will find beginner areas, easy runs, and "Slow Zones" for skiing in the Tūroa winter sports area.
