Highlights:
Family-friendly ski area, very well suited for beginners, snow-sure with natural snow, ski routes and plenty of open ski terrain in the upper section, located directly on the Arlberg expresswayNegative points:
No artificial snowmaking, flat connecting trails on both valley runs in the lower sectionDescription Sonnenkopf – Klösterle
The family-friendly Sonnenkopf ski area is located directly on the Arlberg expressway, making it easily accessible. From the valley, an eight-person gondola lift takes you directly up into the Sonnenkopf ski area via a mid-station (uphill only).
To reach the wide slopes at Glattingrat, you need to take the Sattelkopf drag lift or the Obermuri connecting lift for a short distance uphill, and then you can ski down to the detachable four-seater Obermuri chairlift. This lift takes skiers and snowboarders up to 2,200 meters, offering several intermediate runs over treeless slopes. The easy Muri-Standard run leads back to the top station of the Sonnenkopf gondola, and you can also reach the Riedboden and Riedkopf drag lifts, which open up an easy and wide slope below the Muttjöchle.
From the Obermuri chairlift, you need to take the short Bettler Älple drag lift to return to the top station of the Sonnenkopf gondola. The challenging Klostertal run leads through the Bärenloch from the base station of the Obermuri chairlift down to the Obermoos double chairlift. After this relatively long lift, the Glattingrat double chairlift takes you up to 2,300 meters, the highest point in the ski area. The runs here also lead over open terrain, offering plenty of space for a detour into the powder snow.
From the base station of the Obermoos chairlift, the valley run No. 4a first leads over beautiful wide slopes towards the valley station. The last 3 kilometers of the run go through the forest along a flat trail. The ski route No. 12 branches off here into the village of Klösterle. Another way to reach the valley station is via runs No. 1 and 1a below the gondola lift. From the mid-station, the run continues for about 3 km along a forest road down to the valley station. For refreshments in the ski area, there is the self-service Bergrestaurant Sonnenkopf and the Panoramarestaurant Muttjöchle. If you prefer a cozier atmosphere, you can stop at the rustic Bündthütte above the mid-station.
From the ski area, you have a beautiful view of the Klostertal and can even spot the Flexenstrasse leading up to Zürs.
