Description Snowbird

When driving from Salt Lake City into Little Cottonwood Canyon, you first reach the Snowbird ski area and then Alta. The aerial tram departs from the Snowbird Center and takes you directly up to Hidden Peak at 3,353 m.

From up here, you can access every run on the front side of the ski area, and you can also head into Mineral Basin, a huge bowl on the backside of the mountain with endless slopes and trails, ranging from intermediate to extreme.

The high-speed quad chairlift Baldy Express leads up towards Alta from Mineral Basin. From the Baldy Express, you can glide directly to the top station of the Sugarloaf Express in Alta. The high-speed quad chairlift Mineral Basin takes you back up to Hidden Peak.

Below the aerial tram, you’ll find many extreme runs that either lead all the way down to the base station or end in the Peruvian Gulch. The easy to intermediate run Chip’s Run goes through the gulch, offering less experienced skiers a safe descent from the summit.

The high-speed quad chairlift Gadzoom Express on the right side of the aerial tram provides access to many tree runs and connects to the Gad2 and Baby Thunder chairlifts, which also open up very challenging wooded runs. The Little Cloud chairlift continues from the Gadzoom Express almost to the summit, allowing you to enter Mineral Basin.

The Snowbird Center (located at the tram), Creekside Cafe (located in Gad Valley), Mid-Gad Restaurant (on the mountain), and numerous restaurants in all four hotels offer food and drinks for the entire area. There are also shops, souvenir stores, and beginners will find additional double chairlifts (Wilbere, Chickadee, Baby Thunder) and easy slopes for practice.
