Highlights:
Very beautiful forest runs, views of Lake Tahoe, beginner terrain with a fast four-seater chairlift, great snow parks distributed throughout the ski areaNegative points:
No chairlifts with weather protection covers, often quite crowded on weekends, parking directly at the lift is relatively expensive.Description Sierra at Tahoe
Located on Highway 50, about 20 minutes from South Lake Tahoe and near Echo Summit, the Sierra at Tahoe ski resort awaits. From the Base Lodge (2,225 m) and the parking lots, you can glide up into the ski area on the Grandview Express, a detachable quad chairlift. Huckleberry Mountain, with an elevation of 2,698 m, is the highest point in the Sierra at Tahoe ski area.
On weekends, the parallel double chairlift is also open. From the top, advanced skiers can dive straight into the steep forest runs Eastabout, Castle, and Preache's Passion, while those who prefer a more relaxed experience can cruise down Sugar n'Spice. From the backside, another double chairlift leads up to Huckleberry Mountain, where you can enjoy beautiful views of Lake Tahoe.
To reach the West Bowl, which is served by a detachable quad chairlift and a parallel triple chairlift, you can take a short ride from the Base Lodge on the Nob Hill or Rock Garden double chairlifts, or the Easy Rider Express detachable quad chairlift, and then ski down via the Marmot or Beaver runs. You can also ski directly from Huckleberry Mountain via the easy runs Sugar n'Spice, Ego, Echo, and Beaver.
The valley station of the West Bowl lifts is at 2,024 m, below the Base Lodge, so be sure not to miss the last lift—otherwise, you'll have to hike back up. The beautiful forest runs in the West Bowl offer plenty of variety and are mostly intermediate to advanced. You can also venture into the woods. All runs in the Sierra at Tahoe ski area wind through relatively dense forest and are well-graded and generally wide, so skiers don't get in each other's way.
For beginners, the Easy Rider Express quad chairlift right at the Base Lodge is ideal. This is also where you'll find the terrain park for freestyle skiers and snowboarders.
After skiing or snowboarding, you can enjoy a drink at the bar in the Base Lodge and round off your day on the slopes.
