Access, Parking Passo dello Stelvio (Stelvio Pass)
The Stilfser Joch pass road connects Bormio in Valtellina (Lombardy) with Prad in Vinschgau (South Tyrol). It is the second highest paved pass road in the Alps. The ski area starts at the top of the pass. The approach from Vinschgau/South Tyrol to the Stilfserjoch is rather challenging. Up to the beginning of the pass road to the Stilfserjoch, the roads are well developed. Afterwards, you drive up 48 hairpin bends to an altitude of 2,760 meters. Some sections can only be used by one vehicle at a time. In case of snowfall, it is strongly recommended to have snow chains ready. On weekends, long lines of cars often form due to the spectacular reputation of the pass road. The approaches from Bormio and Switzerland lead steeply up from the west.
