Mt. Hotham is located in the Victorian Alps in southeastern Australia. The ski resort is just under 400 kilometers northeast of Melbourne (a good 4-hour drive) and can be reached from Sydney in about 7.5 hours by car. From Harrietville, the Great Alpine Road, a steep mountain road, leads up to Mt. Hotham and then continues on to Dinner Plain. Coming from Omeo, you first reach Dinner Plain and then Mt. Hotham. During the winter season, every vehicle must pay a Resort Entry fee. This is only possible online and must be purchased before arrival. Upon entry, vehicles are scanned in Harrietville and Mother Johnsons and may also be checked manually there. In addition, carrying snow chains is mandatory in the state of Victoria (even for 4WD/all-wheel drive vehicles). Snow chains can be rented in Harrietville or Omeo. Failure to comply can result in hefty fines of several hundred dollars. By paying the Resort Entry Fee, you can use the designated parking areas along the Great Alpine Road in Mt. Hotham. You must always leave your receipt clearly visible in your car.Access via
