Description Loveland

Right before the Eisenhower Tunnel lies the Loveland ski area. If you leave Highway 70 at Exit 216, you first reach Loveland Valley, where there is a quad chairlift and a double chairlift, mostly serving easy slopes. About a mile further on, you’ll find the parking lots and lifts of Loveland Basin. Valley and Basin are connected by a double chairlift. Loveland Basin offers runs of all difficulty levels—two triple chairlifts start directly from the parking lots: one (Chair 1) goes up to Rock House, and the other (Chair 2) to Ptarmigan Roost. From Rock House, very challenging runs lead back to the Basin beneath the triple chairlift, but there are also intermediate and easy runs to the double chairlift Chair 6, the mid-station of Chair 2, and further on to the quad chairlift The Ridge Chair 9. The Ridge was the highest quad chairlift in the world until 2005 and ascends up to 3,871 meters. From up here, you have a magnificent view of the ski area and can even see as far as Keystone and Breckenridge. The descent is not a groomed slope, but open ski terrain with plenty of space to enjoy wide powder fields.

Before you reach the Basin base station, the triple chairlift Chair 4 branches off to the left, leading to intermediate and advanced runs, and you can switch from the mid-station or top station of the lift to the quad chairlift Zip Basin (Chair 8). At this lift, you’ll find treeless slopes and runs in the upper section, which then lead through forest glades back to the quad chairlift in the lower section. You can reach the Basin base station either via the challenging run "The Face" and a small tunnel under Highway 70, or via intermediate runs passing Chair 4 again. Highly recommended is the "West Ropes" run through the forest back to the parking lots—not for beginners! This rather small to medium-sized ski area offers runs of all difficulty levels and plenty of open ski terrain. There is only one lodge available at each of the two base stations for dining. There are no overnight accommodations in the ski area.
