Environmental protection of the ski resort Kaunertal Glacier (Kaunertaler Gletscher)
Great importance is attached to sustainable tourism in the Kaunertal. The goal of the Kaunertal Glacier is to create an energy-autonomous ski area powered by renewable energy and to establish a sustainable recreational area. The new Weißseejochbahn will generate 40% of its electricity needs with a photovoltaic system. The remaining power comes from clean hydropower. The direct drive is more efficient. Locally produced loden fabric on the seat benches replaces seat heating. The glacier ski area is also easily accessible with the free ski bus. To preserve the glacier, parts of it are covered. The gastronomy focuses on regional products and waste is carefully separated.
