Description Grosseck/Speiereck – Mauterndorf/St. Michael

In the heart of Lungau, modern eight-seater gondolas depart from the Mauterndorf ski center and the St. Michael ski center, taking you up into the Grosseck and Speiereck ski area.

From the mountain station of the gondola below Grosseck, you can take an easy slope down to Troglam, where the Speiereck-Gipfelbahn four-seater chairlift takes you directly to the highest point at just under 2,400 meters. From here, you can either ski back down to the valley on two challenging runs or follow the ridge to Peterbauer Alm on an intermediate run. This is where the new Sonnenbahn Speiereck from St. Michael ends.

The descent down to St. Michael is of intermediate difficulty, leading through forest clearings in the upper section and across alpine meadows from halfway down to the valley. Easy runs are available at the Stockerbauer drag lift and the Trogalm double chairlift. To reach the valley run to Mauterndorf, it’s best to take the Sonnenalm triple chairlift from Trogalm, which ends at the mountain station of the Mauterndorf gondola. From here, an easy and an intermediate run lead down to Mauterndorf; the slopes are very well maintained and highly recommended.

To reach the 2,066-meter-high Grosseck, you need to take the Grosseck triple chairlift. Along this lift, you’ll find slopes of all difficulty levels. At the base station, you’ll find the Mauterndorf ski center with two drag lifts serving an easy slope, perfect for ski lessons and beginners. Children can practice their turns here in peace or visit the Kinderland, while you can watch the activity on the slope from the Schi Alm or the Fliegenpilz umbrella bar. At the base station, you’ll also find a restaurant, ski rental, and plenty of free parking spaces.
