The ski resort Gassan – Nishikawa is located in the Yamagata Prefecture (Japan, Honshu, Tōhoku).
For skiing and snowboarding, there are 10 km of slopes available. 3 lifts transport the guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,235 and 1,670 m.
The ski season in the Gassan – Nishikawa ski area runs from April to July. The area around the 1,974 m high Mount Gassan is usually buried under such large amounts of snow that access is not possible beforehand. For this reason, it is sometimes jokingly referred to as the Gassan Glacier. An older double chairlift takes visitors up into the ski area. There, two rope tows can pull you up to an altitude of 1,670 m. To reach the summit, you still have to hike for over an hour.
