The spa town of Oberwiesenthal is located right on the German-Czech border and is considered a snow-sure winter sports destination in the Ore Mountains. The ski area is just a few meters away, making access very convenient. The cable car starts directly from the town and takes you up to the 1,214-meter-high Fichtelberg. A modern four-seater chairlift with weather protection hoods starts a short distance above the cable car’s valley station and also runs parallel up to Fichtelberg. The longest drag lift in the ski area, called Himmelsleiter, also ends at the top of Fichtelberg. The runs from Fichtelberg down to the Himmelsleiter lift are mostly easy, while the slopes below the two lifts to Fichtelberg are difficult, and the forest runs towards Kleiner Fichtelberg are mostly intermediate to easy. From the town, the Nachtskilauflift and Kurvenlift start up towards Kleiner Fichtelberg (1,206 m). The Nachtskilauflift ends halfway up to Kleiner Fichtelberg and serves a wide, easy slope, and you can also swing back over to the cable car and the four-seater chairlift. Near the Czech border, the single chairlift Kleiner Fichtelberg starts up to the mountain of the same name, and there are very nice intermediate runs leading back to this lift. From Kleiner Fichtelberg, you can also return to the valley via easy to intermediate runs. Another single chairlift called Schanzen serves the ski jump and is usually only in operation during ski jumping events or when there is high demand. Snowboarders will find a halfpipe and a small fun park between Kurvenlift and the Fichtelberg lifts. For children and beginners, there are two conveyor belts in town where you can learn to ski in a safe environment and on very gentle slopes. For refreshments, you can stop at the top of Fichtelberg or at various restaurants in the valley area. At the valley station of the drag lifts, you can even get freshly grilled specialties. Umbrella bars for après-ski are also available, and you can relax there all day long. The runs throughout the area are well-groomed, and with an elevation difference of around 300 meters, they are easy to manage even for less experienced skiers or snowboarders.
