Some drag lifts still need to be used for the connection between the villages.Description Dachstein West – Gosau/Russbach/Annaberg
The Dachstein West ski area includes the villages of Russbach, Gosau, and Annaberg. From each of these locations, you can access the region and enjoy the slopes around the 1,620 m high Zwieselalm.
From Russbach, the Rußbacher Horn eight-person gondola takes you up to the 1,450 m high Hornspitz. You can also reach the Hornspitz from Gosau via the Hornspitz Express I + II. These are two detachable chairlifts with weather protection covers (4-seater and 6-seater). To carve your way to the Zwieselalm, you need to ski down a bit and take the Ochsenkopflift up the mountain. With this lift and the Edtalm six-seater chairlift, you get closer to the Zwieselalm. After descending on intermediate slopes, you reach the valley station of the Höhbühel six-seater chairlift. From the top station, you can enjoy a beautiful and wide forest run down to the Panorama Jet Zwieselalm eight-person gondola, which starts between Gosau Hintertal and Lake Gosau.
This gondola takes you directly to the Zwieselalm. Here, you can challenge yourself on the intermediate to advanced slopes served by the Törleck four-seater chairlift and the Aussichtsberg four-seater chairlift. In summer, the Gosaukamm cable car takes you directly from Lake Gosau up to the Zwieselalm, but there is no valley run down to this cable car. To continue on to Annaberg, take the Angerlift drag lift and then enjoy a beautiful, long, intermediate forest run down the Riedlkopf to Astauwinkel. Here, you have another opportunity to park your car and enter the ski region. The Astauwinkel four-seater chairlift then takes you up to the Kopfberg (1,060 m), and after another descent, you’ve made it to Annaberg.
In Annaberg, the Kopfberg four-seater chairlift takes you back up to the Kopfberg, and you can ski down to Astauwinkel. Since 2014, the Donnerkogelbahn eight-person gondola with a mid-station starts here, heading up towards the Zwieselalm. From here, you can ski back to the Aussichtsberg four-seater chairlift.
To return to Russbach or Gosau, you need to take an intermediate or advanced run to the Hohkögl drag lift, ride it up, and then ski down again to the Edtalm six-seater chairlift. From the top station of the six-seater chairlift, you can ski directly down to Gosau. If you want to return to Russbach, take the Hornspitz Express II six-seater chairlift up to the Hornspitz again. The run down to Russbach is very wide, and from halfway down, you can also take the Triebenegg run to Russbach, but you’ll need to take a short platter lift that brings you to the valley station of the Hornbahn.
The slopes in the Dachstein West ski region are all beautifully and naturally integrated into the landscape, and you’ll find many rustic ski huts along the runs. For children and beginners, there are conveyor belts and ski schools in every village.
