Description Dachstein Glacier (Dachsteingletscher)

After passing through the village of Ramsau towards Filzmoos, the toll glacier road branches off (just over 5 km long, free with a ski pass or cable car ticket) leading to the valley station of the Gletscherbahn. At Türlwand, at an altitude of 1,700 m, the Dachstein Südwandbahn starts its ascent to the Hunerkogel—climbing 1,000 vertical meters without any supporting pillars.

Up here, the lifts operate almost all year round. On the Dachstein Glacier, the short drag lifts Hunerkogel and Austriascharten serve easy slopes and the Dachstein Super Park. The Schladminger Gletscherlift, with a length of 854 m, provides access to additional glacier slopes. Further down, there is the Mitterstein double chairlift, which is connected to an intermediate and a difficult run that winds through the rocks down to the valley station at 2,264 m. Here you will also find plenty of open ski terrain and fantastic descents through the rocks.

The double chairlift then takes you back up to the drag lifts, where you will find the easier slopes. For cross-country skiers, 5 km of trails are groomed year-round. Highly recommended is the Dachstein Ice Palace, offering a spectacular view into a glacier crevasse and featuring ice sculptures. To start the descent to the valley by cable car or to reach the panoramic restaurant on the Hunerkogel, two conveyor belts are available. You can then float back down to Türlwand by cable car. The border between the two federal states of Styria and Upper Austria runs right through the panoramic restaurant on the Hunerkogel, so all the glacier lifts are in Upper Austria, while only the cable car is located in Styria.
