It takes just under an hour from Highway 70 to the Buttermilk Mountain ski area. There are plenty of free parking spaces available. Many visitors park here and then use the free shuttle buses to reach the other Aspen ski areas. Free parking is only available at Buttermilk Mountain. Winter Closure
Highway 82 to Twin Lake via Independence Pass is closed in winter. Aspen can only be reached in winter via Basalt and Glenwood Springs (Highway 70).
