Highlights:
Fast ascent with the gondola, view of Aspen, many challenging runs for expertsNegative points:
Early closure of the lifts, no offers for children and beginnersDescription Aspen Mountain
The six-person Silver Queen Gondola starts directly from the town of Aspen and takes you straight up to Aspen Mountain (also known as Ajax). Intermediate runs lead down to the detachable four-seater Ajax-Express chairlift and the Gent's Ridge four-seater chairlift, both of which end near the top station of the gondola. Experts will want to tackle the very steep runs Walsh's, Hyrup's, and Kristi, all of which end on a cat track that leads to the Gent's Ridge four-seater chairlift. Tip: on the Walsh's run, you have to walk a short section uphill along the cat track! If you continue downhill at the Ajax-Express, you reach Aspen via an intermediate run. Along the way, you’ll pass the FIS double chairlift, which takes you to the slopes at Ruthie's Lift, a detachable double chairlift. From Aspen, the Shadow Mountain double chairlift also leads to Ruthie's Lift.
Several intermediate and advanced runs lead back to Aspen, ending either at the gondola or at the Shadow Mountain double chairlift. Experts will find more than a dozen "Double Diamond" (very difficult) runs from the top station of Ruthie's via the International run, as well as 8 more "Double Diamonds" via the Gentlemen's Ridge run from the base station of the Gent's Ridge four-seater chairlift. After skiing or boarding, you can visit some nice après-ski spots in Aspen. There are no easy runs on Aspen Mountain.
