Alta is a paradise for advanced skiers and freeriders. The ski area receives very high amounts of fresh snow and is known for its excellent snow quality. This regularly provides the best powder skiing conditions.
Within the ski area boundaries, there are numerous challenges: steep groomed and ungroomed slopes, runs through trees and forests (tree skiing), steep bowls, cliffs, mogul slopes, and powder runs. The powder runs within the ski area boundaries are controlled, and you can practically ski anywhere. A highlight is the High Traverse. From the traverse, one steep descent after another begins.
