Environmental friendliness/environmental protection Sahnehang

Test result 3 out of 5 stars

Evaluated by Skiresort.info, the world's largest test portal for ski resorts.
The evaluation is done as follows

Environmental friendliness of the ski resort Sahnehang

The Sahnehang is located in the Kahler Asten nature reserve, but since people have been skiing on the Sahnehang for almost 100 years, the slope was awarded special protection when the nature reserve was established. The installation of the snow-making facility was a bit more difficult and a water reservoir for snow production will not be permitted under nature reserve regulations.
For this reason, the ski area will probably remain with t-bar lifts, which use less energy than chairlifts anyway.
Overnight guests can use the regional buses and trains for free with the Sauerland-Card.

Public transportation/on-site mobility

  • No direct train connection
Winterberg (5 km away, bus connection for all incoming trains during the ski season)
  • Small ski bus offering
  • Scheduled buses
  • During the week, scheduled buses circulate regularly. On the weekends from 26.12 until 3.3., the AstenExpress ski bus complements the existing bus offering enabling an uninterrupted connection to the winter sports areas. It travels from the Winterberg train station (connection for all scheduled trains, free for Sauerland Card holders) to the Sahnehang in about 15 minutes and from the Sahnehang to the Nordhang in 2 minutes (entrance to the Winterberg ski resort) and to Neuastenberg (Postwiesen ski resort) in 10 minutes.
