Description Banff Sunshine

Banff Sunshine Village ski area is about 18 km from Banff. Here, you'll find only "real" snow—snow cannons are (almost) never needed, as the white gold falls in abundance every winter.

From the Gondola Base Station, you take the eight-person gondola up towards Sunshine Village. After a turn, you first reach the mid-station, where you have to decide whether to get off and float up Goat's Eye Mountain on the detachable four-seater chairlift, or continue on to the top station. Goat's Eye Mountain is the domain of the experts.

You'll also find fantastic powder runs here. The "Hell's Kitchen" run leads almost parallel beneath the chairlift down to the base station. Only true pros should attempt this run, as it passes through steep forested terrain.

But now it's time to continue up to Sunshine Village at 2,160 m. Here, you can choose between several lifts. The best option is to take the detachable four-seater chairlift Angel and then transfer to the detachable four-seater chairlift Continental Divide. This lift takes you up to Lookout Mountain, at 2,730 m the highest point in the ski area. On the way up, you briefly cross into the province of British Columbia.

The detachable four-seater chairlift Teepee Town LX is the first chairlift in Canada with weather covers and heated seats. This lift serves beautiful runs beneath Lookout Mountain.

At Lookout Mountain, you can choose between easy and intermediate runs, so there's something for everyone. The "Delirium Dive" run is one of the most challenging in this area and can only be accessed after registering with the Patrol. At Mt. Standish, there's the Strawberry Chair four-seater chairlift, which is ideal for beginners, and the detachable four-seater chairlift Mount Standish Express, which serves easy to difficult runs. Unfortunately, you can't ski directly down to the valley from Lookout Mountain or Mt. Standish; instead, you have to use the short Jackrabbit four-seater chairlift, as well as when you want to return to Goat's Eye Mountain.

The detachable four-seater chairlift Wolverine Express also ends at the top station, starting from the mid-station of the gondola. The valley run, called "Banff Avenue," is a long flat trail from the mid-station of the gondola, where you'll need to push a bit to get back to the base station and the parking lots.
