Evaluated by Skiresort.info, the world's largest test portal for ski resorts.
The evaluation is done as follows
Environmental protection of the ski resort Steckenberg – Unterammergau
Regenerative energy production and sustainable operations at Steckenberg are exemplary. Since 1997, Steckenberg has generated a large part of its electricity from hydropower. In 2009, another hydropower plant was put into operation, significantly expanding the use of renewable energy. Since 2019, a wood gasification plant has been generating CO₂-neutral electricity and heat for Steckenberg from regional wood residues. Since 2019, enough renewable energy has been produced each year to supply several hundred three-person households with electricity.
Snowmaking is carried out with minimal energy consumption thanks to state-of-the-art technology from Switzerland and South Tyrol. The water reservoir is located so high that pumps are not needed and no electrical energy is required for water pressure. This makes the facility one of the most energy-efficient snowmaking systems in Germany.
