Highlights:
Heliskiing, very snow-sure, well-groomed slopes, freeride areas, magnificent view of Lake Vassijaure, midsummer skiing, northernmost ski resort in SwedenNegative points:
No lifts with weather protection covers, no mountain-top restaurants, no snow park, no halfpipeDescription Riksgränsen
Directly on the border with Norway, Riksgränsen is located on the route from Kiruna to Narvik. The small village and the ski lifts are all on Swedish territory, but some of the runs briefly cross into Norway. Riksgränsen is also very popular among freeriders due to its excellent off-piste opportunities.
From Riksgränsen, you can take the Nedre double chairlift and the Övre triple chairlift up into the ski area. On the side of the chairlifts, the sun is not as strong, so you can find good slope conditions here well into May and June. The runs down are of intermediate to advanced difficulty, and you can also ski some mogul slopes.
On the other side, the sunny side of the ski area, the long Nordalsliften platter lift and the Vinkelliften curve drag lift provide access to wonderful intermediate runs on treeless slopes. An easy run leads down to Katterjåkk, from where you can take the Katterjåkkliften platter lift back up into the ski area.
At the valley stations of the two long lifts on the back side of the area, there is another platter lift, the Solliften, which is especially suitable for beginners and serves very gentle slopes.
A special experience is heliskiing in Riksgränsen. When the sun is at its highest, you can even go heliskiing late into the evening. The helicopters fly to the most beautiful peaks around Riksgränsen. Since heliskiing is prohibited in Norway, many Norwegians come to Sweden to enjoy it. The guides take small groups to the most beautiful runs around Riksgränsen. It is a dream to fly through this magnificent mountain landscape.
