Environmental protection of the ski resort KitzSki – Kitzbühel/Kirchberg

Environmental protection is a top priority for Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel. An extensive, free ski bus system connects all base stations with the towns in the region. A successfully completed test phase of e-ski buses enables their daily use in one of the largest ski bus systems in the Alps. A direct rail connection at the base station of the Hahnenkammbahn is a particular highlight. Additionally, there is the KitzSki Express (bus) from Munich, Holzkirchen, Rosenheim, and the Streifzug (train) from Rosenheim. The Streifzug can be used free of charge with ski clothing between Kirchberg, Kitzbühel, and St. Johann. E-charging stations have been installed at several parking lots of Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel. Forest protection areas may not be entered; these are marked with signs and on the piste map, and are also cordoned off.

The new lifts are equipped with energy-saving direct drive systems (energy savings of 600,000 kWh/year), and the GPS-controlled snow management system ensures even snow distribution. This results in significant savings of artificially produced snow and energy. The ongoing fleet renewal of piste machines to the latest generation of EURO 6 models and a consistent replacement program for more than 1,100 snowmakers with the latest, performance-optimized models help protect the environment. Large heating systems have been converted from heating oil to pellets and natural gas, and some mountain restaurants have been fitted with thermal facade insulation. In summer, Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel also relies on the proven “Waseln” system at all construction sites: the top layer of grass and humus is removed, carefully set aside in sods, and then replaced as soon as excavation work is complete.

Public transportation/on-site mobility

  • Train connection
The train stops directly at the Hahnenkammbahn in Kitzbühel and in Kirchberg in Tirol. From Kirchberg station, you can take the ski bus to the ski area. Additionally, the Streifzug can be used free of charge with ski clothing between Kirchberg, Kitzbühel, and St. Johann in Tirol.
  • Comprehensive ski bus network
  • Scheduled buses
  • In the greater Kitzbühel-Kirchberg-Aurach-Jochberg-Pass Thurn-Mittersill area, the use of all buses marked SKIBUS is free with ski passes from Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel or with ski equipment. It is one of the largest ski bus systems in the Alps. Since the 2015/16 season, the XPress Ski Shuttle has connected the SkiWelt (Ki-West Bahn) with Kitzski (Pengelsteinbahn).
