In Imst, you have to decide whether to drive via Landeck to Ischgl or head into Switzerland to the duty-free Samnaun. If you choose the route via Landeck, you’ll reach Ischgl after about half an hour’s drive through the beautiful Paznaun Valley – a dream come true for every winter sports enthusiast. Right from the village, the Funitel Silvrettabahn, the Fimbabahn, and the 3-S Padratschgratbahn whisk you straight up into the Silvretta Arena.
If you head to Samnaun, you’ll reach the duty-free Samnaun after a good half-hour drive from Landeck, once you’ve conquered the steep mountain road.
Just before Samnaun, two aerial cableways, including the double-decker cable car for 180 people, take you up to the Alp Trida Sattel in the international ski arena. From Alp Trida, the detachable six-seater chairlift with weather protection bubbles Sattel takes you up to the Alp Trida Sattel.
To get towards Austria, you can take either the detachable Flimsattel four-seater chairlift with weather protection bubbles or the detachable six-seater chairlifts Viderjoch I and II. With the Viderjochbahn I, you also reach the detachable six-seater chairlift with bubbles up to the Greitspitze. From here, you can ski down intermediate and advanced runs from the Greitspitze to the Idalp, which you can also reach directly from Ischgl with the Funitel or the Fimbabahn.
From the Idalp, you have many options to plan your ski day. After a short descent, you reach the Höllkar six-seater chairlift with weather protection bubbles. Thanks to the padded seats, you can comfortably get closer to the Palinkopf. Next, the detachable six-seater chairlift with weather protection bubbles and seat heating Palinkopf takes you up to the summit of the same name, accompanied by the detachable six-seater chairlift with weather protection bubbles Zeblas, which ends just below the summit. Here, it’s hard to decide which run to take. Run No. 40 descends almost 1,000 vertical meters down to the Gampenalp.
A detour up to the Piz Val Gronda is definitely not to be missed. The detachable six-seater chairlift Gampe with weather protection bubbles will safely bring you back up. You could easily spend an entire day on this lift, skiing the many variants and runs without repeating a single one. From the Palinkopf, you also have a magnificent view over the Alps, all the way to Switzerland. From up here, you can also ski directly back down to Samnaun. The intermediate runs 80 and 81 (Dutyfree-Run) take you comfortably to Samnaun. A long flat trail leads through Samnaun to the aerial cableways. Here, you can also take a break and shop duty-free.
You can also ski down the black runs to the Paznauner Taya and then return to the Idalp with the detachable six-seater chairlift with weather protection bubbles Paznauner Taya, or via the Höllspitzbahn and the detachable Höllboden eight-seater chairlift. You can also reach the Taya with the Bodenalpe four-seater chairlift, which you access via a flat trail from the base station of the Gampe six-seater chairlift.
From the Idalp, you can take the Flimjochbahn or the detachable Idjoch eight-seater chairlift with weather protection bubbles directly back into Switzerland. With the Velill six-seater chairlift or the Grat six-seater chairlift, you reach the scenic Velill Valley run. The new Velilleck six-seater chairlift takes you comfortably back up to the Pardatschgrat.
Gigantic, intermediate, and long runs lead towards Ischgl. Since the 2004/2005 season, the detachable six-seater chairlift with weather protection bubbles Nachtweide has opened up more runs around the Idalp. Ideal for beginners and children on the Idalp is the child-secured six-seater chairlift Sonnenbahn in black Ischgl design.
From the Flimsattel and Idjoch, easy runs lead towards Alp Trida. If you reach Alp Trida via runs 72, 62, or 63, you’ll find half a dozen modern lifts at your disposal. There’s even a baby lift for beginners here.
Highly recommended is the new detachable Visnitz eight-seater chairlift and the runs over to Alp Bella. Here you’ll find another detachable four-seater chairlift up to the Grivalea (2,700 m). The Mullerbahn, a six-seater chairlift with orange bubbles, then brings you back onto the run to Alp Trida. You can also ski directly from Alp Bella via run No. 61 or run No. 60 from Alp Trida to Samnaun-Laret. A free ski bus then takes you to the base station of the Samnaun aerial cableways. Now you can shop in the duty-free village or visit the various cozy après-ski bars. Very important in Samnaun before heading home: don’t forget to refuel!
In Ischgl, après-ski is a big deal. Here, everyone gets their money’s worth, and the fun lasts until the early morning hours. Things are quieter in Samnaun.
