Within the ski area boundary, there are numerous challenges for experts and freeriders: steep groomed and ungroomed slopes, runs through trees and forests (tree skiing), steep bowls, cliffs, and powder slopes. The powder slopes within the ski area boundary are controlled, and you can basically ski anywhere. The steep areas around Empire, Lady Morgan, and Bald Mountain are particularly noteworthy.
