The Alta Environmental Center was founded in 2008 to preserve nature and ensure the sustainability of the ski area. Plants and trees have been planted, wetlands restored, and invasive plants controlled. Alta is committed to saving energy and recycling. Renewable energy credits are purchased, and solar panels have been installed in Alta. There is a program for collecting food waste.

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) ski bus offers public transportation to the area. Shuttles from the airport are organized.
