Ski lifts at the ski resort Zermatt/Breuil-Cervinia/Valtournenche – Matterhorn
The ski resort offers modern lifts and cable cars on both the Swiss and Italian sides.
From Zermatt, the fastest way to reach the ski area on the Klein Matterhorn is by taking the Matterhorn Express eight-seater gondola lift in four sections. The Gornergrat cog railway takes winter sports enthusiasts up to the Gornergrat in just over 30 minutes, directly from Zermatt station. A third way to access the ski area is via the underground Sunnegga funicular. Within the ski area itself, modern chairlifts predominate. The 3S-Bahn Matterhorn glacier ride is the highest three-cable gondola lift in the world. It began operation in the 2018/19 season and provides a comfortable ride up to the Kleine Matterhorn. At the Theodul Glacier, there are mainly drag lifts. Long aerial tramways complete the range of options. These lifts quickly take you up to higher altitudes, but you may have to expect some waiting times.
In Breuil-Cervinia, the lifts start directly from the village. Guests are mainly transported by modern chairlifts and gondola lifts. In Valtournenche, a gondola lift takes you into the ski area. Chairlifts are available for repeat runs.
