1/3 Matterhorn Glacier Ride II (Alpine Crossing)
The new 3S cable car Matterhorn Glacier Ride II (also called Alpine Crossing) was opened on 01.07.2023 and connects Testa Grigia with the Matterhorn glacier paradise. This second, modern 3S cable car on the Klein Matterhorn ends at the same mountain station as the Matterhorn glacier ride. With the 3S cable car Alpine Crossing as the final section, the dream of a panoramic journey by cable car between Zermatt and Breuil-Cervina has finally become a reality.
The modern 3S cable car Alpine Crossing was constructed over two summers. The lift installation, with a length of around 1.7 km, operates without any support towers. The valley station is located at Testa Grigia, directly on the Italian border. The wooden construction creates a warm, modern atmosphere. The mountain station is attached to the existing station of the Matterhorn glacier ride. An extension of the station was already planned during the construction of the first cable car, so the two buildings merge into one. As with the Matterhorn glacier ride, the Alpine Crossing also features the spacious designer cabins by SIGMA. In addition, Crystal ride cabins are also used here, making the journey a unique experience thanks to the view through the glass floor.
