The YongPyong winter sports area is one of the largest ski resorts in South Korea and was the venue for the alpine technical disciplines (slalom, giant slalom, and team event) of the 23rd Olympic Winter Games in 2018. For skiing and snowboarding, YongPyong offers almost exclusively challenging slopes for advanced skiers. A highlight for experts is the particularly difficult Rainbow runs on the backside of the local mountain "Dragon Peak," which can only be accessed by taking the summit ride with the 8-seater gondola. Only a small proportion of easy slopes invites beginners to ski at YongPyong. Most of the skiing in the winter sports area takes place on natural snow. On average, more than 2.5 meters of snow falls per year.
