Surrounded by the picturesque scenery of the Allgäu Alps, the five-star Sonnenalp Resort is located in the small community of Ofterschwang in Bavaria. Now in its fourth generation, Anna-Maria and Michael Fäßler run this traditional hotel with great dedication and warm, family-style hospitality. Founded in 1919 as a small farmhouse, today this luxury retreat offers 218 rooms and suites in alpine country house style as well as four alpine chalets with magnificent views of the mountains.

In 2019, the Sonnenalp Resort celebrated its 100th anniversary and has since undergone a comprehensive transformation inside and out. In addition to the newly designed culinary area, all rooms and suites have already been renovated; the corridors and Germany’s largest hotel shopping mile also shine in new splendor. Step by step, the exterior façade, the spa and sauna area, and the outdoor spaces have followed. From generation to generation, the hotel offers a wide range of amenities, from the cozy fireplace wine bar and Kili-Bar to the hairdresser and a children’s and youth program with over 70 activities.

Upon arrival at the Sonnenalp Resort, you are greeted with exceptional friendliness. Your car is parked for you, and your luggage is brought directly to your room. With a welcome drink at the bar or by the fireplace, you can immediately get into the holiday spirit. The suites and rooms at Sonnenalp are decorated in alpine country house style and offer magnificent views of the mountains. Traditional and modern elements are combined. It doesn’t get more luxurious than this. The various buildings are all connected. In the exclusive shopping arcades, you’ll always find the perfect gift.

For over 85 years, Sonnenalp has offered wellness at the highest level. The Sonnenalp Spa is a sanctuary for fitness and wellness, health, and beauty. An in-house general practice and an orthopedist ensure the well-being of Sonnenalp guests. In the spa, you can enjoy excellent massages and treatments. You definitely shouldn’t miss a massage.

The Quellengarten water paradise features a beautiful indoor pool with bubble loungers, waterfall, and massage jets. A large whirlpool with numerous massage jets completes the offer. Through a sluice, you can swim from the indoor pool to the outdoors and enjoy the mountain scenery of the Oberallgäu right in front of you. Two outdoor rock hot whirlpools are somewhat hidden in the garden. From here, you also have a wonderful view of the mountains. A dedicated children’s water world with a large fun pool, whirlpool, and chill lounge for teenagers is located right by the Quellengarten.

The sauna area offers, in addition to another whirlpool, various saunas including a log cabin sauna and a panoramic sauna. You can cool off wonderfully in the large swimming pond. Here, no wish is left unfulfilled.

Culinary delights abound. Four restaurants and two bars in the hotel ensure perfect catering. In the main restaurant, the evening menu is served with a large salad, specialty, and dessert buffet, as well as a rich breakfast. Fäßler’s Grillstube offers the best meat and fish specialties from the lava stone grill under the motto “Allgäu meets Colorado.”

There is also the gourmet restaurant Silberdistel, which has held a Michelin star since 2010, and the pool restaurant Anna’s with a terrace. At Anna’s, a small breakfast is also served. It’s also ideal for a bathrobe lunch.

This family-friendly hotel offers free childcare and babysitting daily from 9 am to 9 pm. In addition to a dedicated children’s pool area, there are extensive holiday programs, an event center with a bouldering hall, a teen and sports lounge with billiards, table football, air hockey, and game tables. Over 100 years ago, Sonnenalp Resort laid the foundation for what is now the largest hotel ski school in Germany. A free shuttle service is available all day to the resort’s own ski area, Ofterschwang/Gunzesried. This means you can get from the hotel to the valley station in Ofterschwang in just a few minutes right after breakfast.

Other ski areas throughout the Oberallgäu can also be reached by shuttle as part of the ski courses. In the hotel’s own “Weltcup-Hütte” at the mountain station of the Weltcup-Express, you can enjoy the sun and recharge. Sonnenalp offers a daily free beginner ski course for children aged four to seven. There is also a ski service and rental equipment available directly in the hotel’s own Ski-Stadl. For cross-country skiers, the multi-track house trail with routes between three and fifteen kilometers in length is located right in front of the hotel.
