Highlights:
Great selection of slopes, very sunny ski area on a high plateau above the Rhone Valley, beautiful panorama at the Plain-Morte Glacier and Bellalui, good challenges for advanced skiersNegative points:
Hardly any chairlifts with weather protection hoods, extremely expensive parking feesDescription Crans-Montana
On a sunny plateau high above the Rhône Valley, already in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, lies Crans-Montana. It can be reached via winding roads or by a funicular from Sierre. From Crans and Montana, gondola lifts whisk you directly into the ski area.
Between Montana and Aminona, a six-person gondola lift runs from Violettes up to Les Violettes at 2,220 m. From here, you can take the Funitel straight up to Plaine Morte, the glacier of Crans-Montana, at 2,927 m. Plaine Morte is also the starting point of the 8 km long valley run, which first leads through an impressive rocky valley to La Barmaz.
With the four-seater chairlifts Toula and Tsa, you head towards Petit Mont Bonvin. From Petit Mont Bonvin, you can easily make your way back over to Les Violettes.
To carve down the slopes of Crans at Cry d'Er, take the Nationale Express chairlift to Cry d'Er. Here, you’ll also find more magnificent slopes, such as at Bellalui, and the eight-person gondola lift from Crans to Cry d'Er. At the end of the ski day, you’ll be spoiled for choice as to which of the beautiful valley runs you want to descend.
