The ski area of Cortina d'Ampezzo starts on both the left and right sides of this charming Olympic town, ascending into the Dolomites. The two sides are connected by free ski shuttles.
At Passo Falzarego, you can take the Lagazuoi cable car straight up the rock face to an altitude of 2,778 meters. An intermediate-level run leads back to Passo Falzarego and continues to Col Gallina, where a triple chairlift and a platter lift provide access to mostly easy to intermediate slopes on treeless hillsides.
From Lagazuoi, you can also take a very scenic run down to Armentarola and use the Armentarola drag lift to reach the Alta Badia ski area and the Sella Ronda. From Armentarola, private taxis (fixed price 8 euros per person) will take you back up to Passo Falzarego.
From Col Gallina, a connecting trail along the road leads to the Cinque Torri-Passo Giau lifts. Here, a covered four-seater chairlift and a double chairlift take winter sports enthusiasts up to Rifugio Averau, from where you can ski an intermediate run towards Fedare (Passo Giau). A double chairlift takes you back up again. The runs below the 2,235-meter-high Cinque Torri are easy to intermediate. With the Croda Negra double chairlift, you can return to Passo Falzarego.
From 5 Torri, the 10-seater Cortina Skyline gondola (Son dei Prade-Cianzopé-Bai de Dones) takes you to the Tofana Olympic area of Cortina d'Ampezzo. From here, you can enjoy easy slopes above Socrepes. To reach the slopes below Tofana (3,244 m) at Ra Valles, take the 10-seater gondola from Cortina to Col Drusciè and then the cable car up to Ra Valles. Here, a detachable four-seater chairlift with a mid-station and a double chairlift provide access to easy to intermediate runs.
You can only reach the summit of Tofana in summer. The third section of the Tofana cable car is no longer in operation during winter.
From Ra Valles, you can take the challenging Forcella Rossa run through the rocks back down to the valley, where you can join the Olympic runs or ski directly down to the valley in Cortina. The valley run is mostly an easy slope through the forest, and you cross a road three times with safe and well-marked piste guidance.
On the other side of Cortina d'Ampezzo, there is the Faloria and Cristallo ski area, which is served by several chairlifts. A cable car from Cortina d'Ampezzo also takes you up to Faloria.
Throughout the ski area, you will find excellent mountain huts with stunning views of the Dolomites, perfect for a break. For après-ski, you can enjoy a drink at one of the bars in the pedestrian zone of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
