1/15 Standseilbahn Schwyz-Stoos (Stoosbahn)
The Schwyz-Stoos funicular (Stoosbahn) is, at its opening, the steepest funicular railway in the world. Thanks to a new vehicle concept, the lift system overcomes various gradients along its route, featuring a total of three tunnel structures and reaching a maximum incline of 110 percent. The passenger cabins always remain horizontally aligned.
The new funicular from Doppelmayr connects the valley station Schlattli in Muotathal with the mountain station Stoos in the utmost comfort. On its approximately 1.7 km long route, the railway passes through three tunnels and overcomes a maximum gradient of 110%.
For the first time in this form, cylindrical passenger compartments compensate for the incline and maintain a horizontal alignment of the passenger area. During the comfortable ride, guests enjoy the view through the large panoramic windows. Each vehicle accommodates 136 passengers, enabling a capacity of 1,500 people per hour. Goods platforms on the mountain side allow for additional freight transport. For increased comfort and accessibility when boarding and alighting, both the mountain and valley stations are built at ground level.
